Wow…time sure flies (as it usually does when good things happen). And traveling is always a good thing, right? ![]()
Several months ago, Mom and I decided to head to Italy on our own, for 2 weeks. Dad was also OK with the idea, until he realized that he’s going to miss us terribly, which he does. And we miss him, of course
So after some intense planing, the plane tickets were bought, for a very good price (we got one day when the airline sold the tickets at 20% off, add that to the Exclusive club member fee and it was almost a bargain), then came the daunting “where will we stay?”…Several options were taken into account, in the end deciding on those that caught our eyes (and didn’t leave a gigantic hole in our pocket)!
All was fine and dandy, but come Monday before the trip (we were leaving on Saturday), I get food poisoning. I mean the almost whole shebang – nausea, the ever running to the bathroom, the loss of weight, the works. On Wednesday I still didn’t feel all well – Mom was at the point of wanting to cancel the whole trip, but changed her mind, due to my stubbornness of course.
So there we were, on Saturday, a beautiful day I might add, at the airport, waiting for our departure. The itinerary was quite clear: Milan, Venice, Rome and after 2 weeks of this, home. I was a bit nervous as I didn’t know how this trip is going to work.
Day 1 – arrived at the airport, and showed Mom around. Yeah, the airport is so big, you can walk from one end to the other in under 2 minutes. We stood in separate places in line, and Mom, being the lucky person she is, managed to get on the plane first, and secured very good seats. The flight was pretty much uneventful, and as soon as Mom pointed that out, the kid in front of us lost his lunch (peanuts, chips, cookies and soda), not in the bag provided on the plane, but rather on himself, the chair in front of him and his brother (who wasn’t AT ALL too happy about this) – it’s not enough the poor kid felt bad, his brother kept hitting him and calling him names. I felt bad for him, and luckily the plane was landing when this happened so we didn’t have to endure the stench for too long. The security check went like a breeze, and we hopped on the shuttle bus to the Milano Centrale (train station). From there on we took the subway, then a short walk and reached the hotel. It wasn’t super luxurious, but really comfortable, the location very good, close to the transportation. After a well deserved shower, we took a walk but realized we’re too tired to wander around, so back to the hotel and hit the sack.
Day 2 – In the morning, being fresh as a daisy, and having a hearty breakfast (without tomatoes I might add), we were off to see the sights. It was decided to see the Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, therefore we had to ride the subways (oh joy
).
The time in Milan was awesome, saw a lot of awesome things – the Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, a must see for all you technology fans, and not only you – many of Leonardo’s drawings are displayed along with the models made after them, trains, planes, submarines, the works; the Duomo – a splendid sight, attractive both inside and out, not to mention the great view it offers from the top, the Vittorio Emanuele II Galleries with brand names like Prada, Louis Vuitton, and others that sell items for a sky high price. All in all, the 2 full days were great and was looking forward for Venice. Little did I know!
Soon to come – the Italian adventure – part 2 – Venice!

I was in Italy for a month but never made it further north than Sienna, so I never made it to Milan and Venice. Glad you enjoyed your time there.
I truly did….I would return, but I’d rather see the cities I haven’t been able to see yet – Napoli and Florence for instance
