Hello, oh ye few, but faithful readers, and welcome new ones ![]()
You’ve been probably wondering where I was, or at least what happened to me since I kind of shied away from writing. What? You haven’t noticed? After 4 months? Or hey, maybe you have but didn’t know how to reach me and say “dude, what happened? why haven’t you written anything for 4 months?”…hmmm, ok, well Mom did ask me. Dad doesn’t read the blog so he’s not that concerned. But since all of you were asking yourselves what happened, and as I am the type of guy who likes sharing (except Twizzlers, with them it’s first come first served, be forewarned) I’ll tell you.
It’s a warm summer evening in ancient Greece…wow there, Big Bang Theory flashback.
After the Italian trip, readjusting to the daily activities was not easy. But I relaxed, because you know how the holidays take it out of you, and prepared for the September exam session (while I was supposed to study for my specialty exam). The session was full, of students that is. I was feeling pretty tired after it, not to mention I squeezed in a trip to London for an interview (no positive outcome in case you were wondering). That trip was my turning point. I’ve had enough – enough of all the emails requesting this or that, of all the insecurities, of all the demands, so I ended it. My working relationship with the UK. For now. So at the moment I’m in a love-hate relationship with London, something like Sally has with China. I was tired of putting my life on hold on the off chance I might go abroad. That decision taken, with a burden lifted off my shoulders, I bought a car
It’s a small one, but I love it dearly and I have to admit I find it pretty essential now. Naturally this couldn’t have been done without the help of my amazing parents, for whom I am grateful everyday.
October saw me at the beginning of a new term, with a new generation of students. The schedule was pretty brutal, but I didn’t complain. Mid-October I had the specialty exam, a great milestone in my life as my entire future depended on its outcome. So 2 days of exams, after weeks of studying settled it. I would be a specialist soon
I remember saying to myself “if I pass it with a good mark I’ll get a tattoo to remember this, or do something crazy”, but once it was over I just wanted to sleep. Dreaming of exam topics, and consuming large quantities of Pepsi does disturb one’s sleeping cycle and ability to rest. So sleep I did, leaving the tattoo for a more memorable occasion.
The end of the month found me in London again, for 2 days. The plane ticket was dirt cheap and the reason was solid – Britney Spears in concert *no snickering in the back, and no rolling your eyes*. Yes, I was a Britney Spears fan. If you don’t like it, tough. So when the tour began, and it was heard that she’ll be in London, Nana bought tickets (as a present for my specialty exam – although how she knew I would pass is beyond me). So, after a trip to Waterstone’s to find out how the X-Men’s Onslaught saga ends and a delicious lunch at Wagamama, we headed towards the O2 arena, ready to bust a move with the Femme Fatale. She did not disappoint. Although she doesn’t have the same moves she had some years ago, the show was great. As soon as she walked on stage, the whole crowd stood and for the entire duration of the concert nobody sat down. The old hits mingled with the new ones, sang at the top of our lungs. Another dream come true.
November and December found me at work mostly, and eagerly waiting for Christmas. I know that some think that the holidays have become too commercial, but I love them nonetheless. The anticipation you feel when your loved ones open their presents, the delicious food, the whole fuzzy feeling, love it.
Bookwise I made up for lost time – after the exam I vowed I would read as much as possible, which is not that difficult with my dear Kindle. So here’s the list of books read since August: Rick Riordan - The lost hero; The Kane Chronicles (The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire); Portia de Rossi – Unbearable lightness; Kim Harrison – Dead witch walking; Alice Hoffman – Practical magic (the movie was so much better); Suzanne Collins – The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay.
Speaking of books, a friend of mine gave me a great idea for a blog/website. Seeing how I’m into books, I want to be involved in a reading community, therefore the whole concept of said corner of the cyberspace will include information about books, discussions amongst the readers, suggestions and so on. What do you think? As soon as I get it started I’ll spread the word and hope you will too
